do i need a doctor's referral for physiotherapy treatment?
No, physiotherapists are primary providers. We can generate an ACC claim for you if indicated, refer you for xrays and ultrasound scans, and refer you to specialists/surgeons.
IS THE COST OF PHYSIOTHERAPY COVERED BY ACC?
Only if the condition was caused by something specific such as a fall, trip, tackle, slip, or lifting. Your physiotherapist will be able to advise you as to whether you are likely to qualify, and can lodge the claim for you. Small co-payments apply for ACC consultations.
Do i have to have hurt myself at work to qualify for acc?
No, ACC covers physiotherapy treatment for injuries sustained out of work, such as around the home and garden, or while participating in recreational activity
what happens at my first physiotherapy session?
Your physiotherapist will ask you questions about your problem, look at movements, palpate, assess joint mobility, and depending on your problem use special tests to help reach an accurate diagnosis. Treatment will then be given and will vary depending on your diagnosis, but can be a variety of modalities, hands on treatment, exercise prescription, strapping and onwards referral if indicated.
how long is a treatment session?
Initial consultations at In Touch Physiotherapy are generally 45 minutes in duration. Follow up appointments are 30 minutes, although if necessary, more time is allocated.
do you do hands on treatment?
At In Touch Physiotherapy we strongly believe that hands on treatment is our strength as physios. Manual therapy, specifically joint mobilisation, is an essential component of our treatments, rather than simply prescribing exercises. We believe that our hands on treatment increases your mobility, and allows you to then perform your prescribed exercise programme effectively.
WHAT ARE MODALITIES?
Modalities used at In Touch Physiotherapy include shock wave therapy, interferential (electrical stimulation), and ultrasound. These modalities affect your body at a cellular level, having an effect on inflammatory cells, circulation at cellular level, and chemicals responsible for pain. Use of modalities is used as a precursor to manual therapy, as by reducing your pain first, we can make greater gains with manual therapy, and you in turn, can be more effective with your home exercise prescription.
